They are asking the community to call President Bush and ask him to call an immediate moratorium on all raids, deportations and separations of families until Congress fixes its broken immigration laws.

10 AM
Adalberto UMC (Iglesia Metodista Unida)
2716 W. Division St., Chicago, IL

How many lives must be destroyed;
How many children must be separated from their mothers;
How many wives from their husbands;
How many millions must live in fear;
Victims of a broken law;
Because the leaders of this natiion;
Cannot make up their minds how to fix it?

These are the questions that have driven one of the first and most well-known leaders of the movement of the undocumented to bring a hunger strike on Mother's Day, May 10.

Elvira Arellano, President of La Familia Latina Unida, announces the beginning of a hunger strike on May 11 aimed at bringing attention to the suffering of two million "mixed status" famlies and demanding that President Bush call a moratorium on "raids, deportations and separations of families" until the Senate and the Congress come to a resolution of this nation's broken immigration laws.

La Familia Latina Unida, which began the campaign for family unity that led to recent mobilization of millions, began with 12 families and has grown to include families across the nation. All these families include U.S. citizen children and often one spouse who is a citizen or legal resident. Many of these families will be present to support Elvira and many will join her in the hunger strike. The IFCO Systems workers arrested and put in deportation this past April and their families will also be joining Elvira at this press conference.

During the hunger strike, La Familia Latina Unida has asked members of the community to join each night in evening prayers with Elvira from 5pm until 7pm in the PLAZA TENOCHTITLAN at the corner of 18th Street, Blue Island and Loomis St. Special Note: On May 16th, we will hold the prayer vigil in Washington, D.C.

La Familia Latina Unida and Centro Sin Frontersas will also be joining La Que Buena's "El Pistolero" show in calling for the community to call President Bush and asking him to declare the moratorium on all raids, deportations and separations of families until the broken law is fixed.
