The Coalition of African, Asian, European and Latino Immigrants
of Illinois (CAAAELII) created its Technology Project (CTP)
in August 2000. Until then, all of its Partner
Agencies communicated via broadcast faxes, half had no
internet access, and their staff had little computer training.
The project was designed to improve the dissemination of information
among the CAAAELII partner agencies and among other individuals
and agencies seeking information about immigration matters.
Since that time,
CAAAELII partner agencies have experienced a fantastic growth
of computer technology centers. (CTP) raised the minimum standards
of every partner agency to include broadband access, internal
networks, access to free weekly computer skills trainings,
and e-mail communication. It is now nationally recognized
for its technology program.
(CTP) has trained
over a hundred staff and clients in topics as diverse as Hardware
Installation, Networking Basics, Office Suite applications,
and Surfing the Internet. Staff members have provided consulting
services for planning various office infrastructure and have
installed the final product. They are hands-on technicians
with excellent communication skills that maintain "for
profit" standards for the nonprofit community.
